Marine U7s 3, Northfield U7s 1
THE Mini Mariners continued their good run when the eventually ran out deserved winners over a well-drilled Northfield side.
In blustery conditions Marine were a little off the mark allowing Northfield the upper hand in the early exchanges. With only minutes on the clock Northfield stunned Marine when an excellent long range effort found the top corner giving the keeper no chance.
Marine were stung into action and began to haul themselves back into the game. Despite taking more control of the game it wasn’t until well into the first half that Marine equalised with a well taken effort from Peter Silcock.
The second half began as the first half ended with Marine in the ascendancy but despite creating chances they couldn’t breakdown the Northfield defence.
Marine eventually got their just rewards midway through the half with a superb goal. Bradley Roberts broke down a Northfield attack and set off on a great run from inside his own half. Storming forward he managed to get in a superb cross from the left wing, which was met on the volley by Peter Silcock to guide it sweetly into the Northfield goal.
MOM Bradley Roberts capped an excellent performance with a great finish from the edge of the box to give a final score of 3-1 to Marine.
There were some excellent performances all over the pitch for Marine. Bradley Roberts was superb in a deeper roll, Tom Flannery is regaining his confidence and showing great promise down the left, Callum Duncan had a wonderful second half in defence and Peter Silcock maintained is eye for goal with two great efforts.
Credit to Northfield for their continued improvement and making Marine work so hard for their victory. Colin Begbie

I thought in the early part of the match we were going to have a reaction to the previous week's exploits against Indanet similar to that suffered by Tottenham against Birmingham. But good on the boys, they dug deep and worked hard for their result again.
Max never stopped running the whole match. At one point he was like a ball in a pin ball machine, chasing the football from one player to another trying to get it back. The boy must have bellows for lungs!
Please don't think I am biased, but I thought that our second goal must be a strong contender for goal of the season for the whole league, never mind just our team. The tackle, the run and especially that cross from such a tight angle by Bradley was phenomenal and the finish from Peter was excellent too.
What puts things into perspective for me is that most if not all of these boys still believe in Father Christmas and most of them, if not all, still don't know how to tie their shoe laces! Yet just look at how well they can play as a team...Fantastic!
If these boys can stick together and carry on developing at the rate they already are, they really will be something special.
Hail Hail!
