AFTER a full year of junior league football during which his teammates have clocked up around 100 goals, Jack is the only player not to have found the back of the net.
Actually, forget a bulging 'onion bag,' he'd be delighted for a shot to stutter across the line and come to a hlt in the mud.
On Saturday, the coach Colin gave his central defenders instructions to loiter on the edge of the penalty area for corners in the hope that they may be able to drill the loose ball goalwards.
Jack had three 'chances' to wallop the ball towards the goal. None went in, although one shot clipped the outside of the post, he reckoned.
Colin has organised a friendly this Sunday and he's also considering making a few positional changes for Saturday's match. Will Jack finally break his duck?
Here's the official match report from last weekend's game...
Marine U7s 2, Fleetwood Juniors U7s 0
THERE was no New Year hangover for the young Mariners as they produced a fine performance to earn victory over the hard working Fleetwood Juniors.
Marine started very brightly and put Fleetwood under some early pressure. It wasn’t long before the deadlock was broken after an excellent run and cross down the right wing from Andrew Begbie, which the Fleetwood keeper did well to keep out before a determined Peter Silcock managed to force the ball over the line to give Marine a deserved lead.
The remainder of the first half belonged to Marine but with space at a premium on a tight pitch they were unable to breakdown a determined Fleetwood defence. This despite some great work down the left by Kieron Thornton.
With no further goals in the first half, the second half remained a tight and cagey affair and although Fleetwood managed to put Marine under a bit more pressure Marine always seemed under control.
Halfway through the half, another great run from Bradley Roberts ended with him being bundled over inside the box as he was bearing down on the goal.
Justice was done with the resulting penalty, which he dispatched in fine style to double the Marine lead.
Despite a few half chances for Marine the game ended without further additions to the score.
It was a very accomplished performance by Marine with MOM going to Andrew Begbie for another polished performance in defence and midfield.
The boys were made to work hard by a resilient Fleetwood team but they all rose to the challenge for a deserved victory. Both teams contributed to a good game and all the boys should be pleased with their effort and commitment. Colin Begbie
