TOMORROW morning, before his eyes are fully open, Jack will ask how the Reds got on against the Hammers tonight.
I'll stand on the botton rung of his bunk bed ladder and explain to him that despite the euphoric victory over mighty Havant and Waterlooville at the weekend, Liverpool couldn't continue their winning form.
"Come on, son. The Hammers are a top ten Premier League side you know," I'll say.
"Losing 1-0 is a good result. Keeping a clean sheet until the 93rd minute is pretty good. And we have racked up four points from the last five matches.
"Look at the facts, Jack. We're on 40 points which is a lot. It's only six less than this time last season and five less than in 2006."
The only consolation for Jack will be that his great, great grandad grew up in the shadow of Upton Park and his mate Max's dad, Pete, is a Hammer.
"Pete will be chuffed, won't he? Who did Rafa pick, dad? Surely not Aurelio, Kuyt and that bloody awful Harry Kewell? He's really crap isn't he, dad? Anyone can see that. Even his bird who you fancy.
"I like Rafa but he's finished now. No way back, dad. No way."

They had a famous FA Cup run in the early 1990s, eventually being knocked out by Crewe 3-1 in the 3rd round. Roly Howard was manager for a record 33 years (1972-2005), although he will always be remembered by some fans as Kenny Dalglish's window cleaner. TV presenter Ray Stubbs once asked: "How's business, Roly?" to which Roly replied "Oh you know - ups and downs."

Former players include Michael Ball (Everton and Rangers) and Stephen Wright (Liverpool and Sunderland). The club motto is 'To Enjoy, Not Destroy.'
