EVEN the most bitter rival fans will struggle to pick holes in Liverpool's 8-0 thrashing of Besiktas in the Champions League at Anfield tonight.
It was a breathtaking display featuring no less than 20 shots on target. The scoreline beats the competition's previous best, Arsenal's 7-0 win over Slavia Prague a few weeks ago and, of course, Man United's 7-1 win over Roma last season.
OK, so Stevie G's strike got a deflection and Babel's second goal (Liverpool's 7th) was a tad fortunate to ricochet off his back.

Yeah, I know, the first goal followed a lucky break and four of the goals were tucked away after the goalie parried the ball straight to a Liverpool player.
Yeah, yeah, Besiktas are hardly AC Milan or Barcelona. I know. If only they could do that in the league, eh? They only whacked six past Derby and they're really rubbish.
It was a great night in front of the TV for armchair Liverpool fans like me, even with The Gaffer wittering to her mate about diets, coffee machines and tops in the background. Grrrr...
Pity I banished Jack to bed at half-time with the words: "That's it son. 2-0. There'll be no more goals. Liverpool will sit back in the second half and defend."
How do I explain the final scoreline when he asks me over his Sugar Puffs in the morning? I might just tell him it stayed at 2-0.

They had a famous FA Cup run in the early 1990s, eventually being knocked out by Crewe 3-1 in the 3rd round. Roly Howard was manager for a record 33 years (1972-2005), although he will always be remembered by some fans as Kenny Dalglish's window cleaner. TV presenter Ray Stubbs once asked: "How's business, Roly?" to which Roly replied "Oh you know - ups and downs."

Former players include Michael Ball (Everton and Rangers) and Stephen Wright (Liverpool and Sunderland). The club motto is 'To Enjoy, Not Destroy.'
