TWO teams boasting some stars of tomorrow gave spectators a thrilling display of junior football which would have had John Motson reaching for his book of superlatives.
It was a game which could have swung either way in the second half with Indanet scoring the crucial goal late on. The youngsters must be among the best under-7s in Merseyside, if not farther afield.
Anyone who knows football knows that it can be a cruel game and, if anything, Jack and the boys had the better of the play and can feel unlucky not to have bagged the points, especially after battling back from 2-0 down.
Well done to Indanet though. Sky Sports will screen far less entertaining games this season.
Here's the official match report...
Marine U7s 2, Indanet Juniors U7s 3
AN excellent display of committed and passionate football between two closely matched teams saw unbeaten Indanet edging it in the dying seconds of a five-goal thriller.
Marine started brightly and put pressure on the Indanet goal, but within five minutes Marine found themselves two goals down, both in similar circumstances, when two speculative long-range efforts found their way into the Marine net via a deflection giving the keeper no chance on both occasions.
Marine showed a lot of spirit and came back into the game strongly scoring two goals before the break through Max Smith and Bradley Roberts.
The second half was a tense affair with both teams doing their best to break down two resilient defences. Marine began to get the better of possession and chances thanks in no small part to a magnificent display by Andrew Begbie who controlled the Indanet frontline superbly.
With time running out Marine continued to push forward in an effort to find the winning goal, but unfortunately, they were caught out with a sucker punch. A quick counter attack left the Marine defence exposed and Indanet clinically finished with seconds remaining in the game giving them victory.
It was a much-improved effort by Marine with all of their players showing more commitment and effort. Man-of-the-match Bradley Roberts worked tirelessly up front with Max Smith and Kieron Thornton also having big games in midfield.
Both sets of team and supporters agreed that a point each would have been a fair reflection of the game, but despite not taking any points from the game, the Marine players can take a lot of pride and satisfaction from a wonderful effort. A great game and credit to both teams. Colin Begbie

A superb game indeed.
After the stick you recieved after last weeks game Touchline Dad, I am suprised that you haven't mentioned that Ron was very conspicuous by his absence at the match on Saturday. It was without doubt the best game the lads have been involved with in their time together and that little bit of extra support may have made all the difference. Hang your head in shame Ron!
