AFTER such a scintillating start to his Anfield career, comparisions between Fernando Torres and Ian Rush are inevitable.
Before he'd even kicked a ball for the Reds, some pundits observed that Torres has an air of Rushie. His instinct, pace and finishing should give Liverpool a genuine chance of winning the Premier League next May.
Steven Gerrard also drew comparisions during an exclusive chat with the Liverpool ECHO. But, it wasn't just their similarities in front of goal that has impressed the skipper.
"I know Ian Rush was a great striker and as captain I don't want to put too much pressure on him (Torres) in terms of goals.
"But Rushie got a lot of credit for working for the team, tracking back and not giving defenders a minute on the ball. And that's what Fernando does."
Of course, some might say it's too early to make proper comparisons. They are right. It won't stop Reds fans dreaming though...
Emulating Ian Rush's achievements would bring silverware galore; eclipsing them could see Liverpool dominate the English game and Europe for a decade.

They had a famous FA Cup run in the early 1990s, eventually being knocked out by Crewe 3-1 in the 3rd round. Roly Howard was manager for a record 33 years (1972-2005), although he will always be remembered by some fans as Kenny Dalglish's window cleaner. TV presenter Ray Stubbs once asked: "How's business, Roly?" to which Roly replied "Oh you know - ups and downs."

Former players include Michael Ball (Everton and Rangers) and Stephen Wright (Liverpool and Sunderland). The club motto is 'To Enjoy, Not Destroy.'

Every greatrside needs someone to bang in 20plus goals a season. But equally every great striker needs great players to fulful poential. Torres will be as good as his Liverpool team mates make him. There's no doubt he's got loads of talent and I hope rafa lets him use it.
