ONE of the biggest surprises of the season will be if Crazy Frog lookalike Avram Grant is still in charge at Stamford Bridge in the New Year.
As appointments go, this one's got caretaker written all over it. Three 'big' names are being linked with succeeding the Premier League's newest manager - Lippi, Van Basten and Hiddink.

But which one, if any, is going to get the poisoned Chavski chalice?
Ironically, Grant has infinitely more experience at this level, having played (and lost) one league game as manager.
Van Basten has near-zero managerial pedigree and Lippi appears to be able to resist the temptation of cash (he's had offers from plenty of clubs since leading Italy to World Cup success last summer), although everyone has their price.
Of the three, Guus Hiddink is the most likely choice, even for someone so mixed-up as Roman Abramovich.
We are led to believe that Mr A is bankrolling Hiddink's wages with Russia, but that arrangement will almost certainly end if England qualify for Euro 2008 at Russia's expense. The two teams play each other in Moscow on October 17 with the last round of qualifiers on November 21.
The ex-Holland boss will be free to take control at Chelsea on November 22, despite the smokescreen from his agent Cees van Nieuwenhuizen that he doesn't want to manage in the Premier League and that the Russian FA are close to finalising a contract extension.
The Goose may leave things until January, perhaps having already written off Chelsea's league chances by then and wanting to enjoy a Christmas blow out on the Oranjeboom?
That is, unless England slip up and Hiddink is required to finish the job at the European Championships finals next summer, sending Abramovich and his chief bungler Peter Kenyon back to the drawing board.
Has anyone got a number for Dennis Wise?

They had a famous FA Cup run in the early 1990s, eventually being knocked out by Crewe 3-1 in the 3rd round. Roly Howard was manager for a record 33 years (1972-2005), although he will always be remembered by some fans as Kenny Dalglish's window cleaner. TV presenter Ray Stubbs once asked: "How's business, Roly?" to which Roly replied "Oh you know - ups and downs."

Former players include Michael Ball (Everton and Rangers) and Stephen Wright (Liverpool and Sunderland). The club motto is 'To Enjoy, Not Destroy.'
