LEAGUE matches are obviously like buses.
After weeks of being thwarted by the weather, Jack and the boys got their league campaign underway with TWO games in one morning.

After detecting that Jack was a tad nesh when it came to the hurly burly of defending, I took him to the park to practice clearances.
Until Saturday, Jack would often wait with the ball between his feet, raise a sucked index finger in the air, consult his A to Z and canvas the views of his teammates before passing.
Of course, by then, he was swamped by attackers.
I considered a more straightforward tactic was needed. Hoof it!!!
In the park I would boot the ball to him either in the air or on the ground before charging at him from 15 yards.
His task was to control the ball and whack it back past me before I crashed into him clad in my helmet, shoulder pads and Pittsburgh Steelers jersey. Gee whizz, those lycra leggings can spark!
It appears to have had the desired effect. Wide-eyed Jack can't clear the ball quick enough.
I was chuffed to see him get a mention in the club's official match reports...

Lightning Strike Twice
Crosby Stuart FC 1, Burscough Lightning 2
Up against a more experienced team the boys struggled to get into their stride.
The stronger Burscough team scored two deserved goals either side of the break.
The boys played better in the second half but rarely troubled the Burscough goal.
A good defensive display kept Burscough quieter in a much more even second period.
Jack Harvey and Andrew Begbie played well in defence with some solid goalkeeping from Paul Williams.
In attack Andrew Welch made some great runs but the boys lacked the finishing touch in front of goal.
Frustrating Shut Out
Crosby Stuart FC 0, Burscough Bullets 0
An excellent all round team performance with all of the boys involved at some stage.
It was a fairly even first half with both defences canceling each other out but the second half was dominated by the boys and despite several clear cut chances the ball just wouldn't go in.
The performance deserved more from the game but there were a lot of positives to take from it.
A good defensive display from Callum Duncan in the first half and Jack Harvey in the second half.
'Man of the Match' Andrew Welch made some great runs going forward and Max Smith worked tirelessly in midfield.
A special mention to all the parents and friends who gave all of the boy’s great support all morning.« Previous | Home | Next »

They had a famous FA Cup run in the early 1990s, eventually being knocked out by Crewe 3-1 in the 3rd round. Roly Howard was manager for a record 33 years (1972-2005), although he will always be remembered by some fans as Kenny Dalglish's window cleaner. TV presenter Ray Stubbs once asked: "How's business, Roly?" to which Roly replied "Oh you know - ups and downs."

Former players include Michael Ball (Everton and Rangers) and Stephen Wright (Liverpool and Sunderland). The club motto is 'To Enjoy, Not Destroy.'
