JUST as I thought. The Gaffer nodded off while watching Poirot. Well, if she must stay up gossiping with the girls until 3am leaving me to do the morning milk run with baby Paddy...
Clambered up to the loft in search of my 1970s football cards.
I drew a blank but I did unearth a dusty box of my old Dinky toys (don’t get too excited Hugh Scully - they are well battered), a 1975 edition of the Guinness Book of Records and some old autographs scribbled on the cover of a school exercise book.
DJ Janice Long, footballer Alan Kennedy (scorer of two European Cup winning goals, of course), some girl from the Belle Stars (remember Iko Iko, Sign of the Times?) and John Peel.
Best of all though…two signed photographs of former Blue Peter presenter Sarah Greene. I wrote to her in about 1982 and she replied twice, six months apart.
Same photo. Same words. Different pen.

Years later I wrote to her successor Caron Keating while I was a student in Manchester. She also replied (complete with a saucy note about toasted crumpets) but Knebworth Mick nicked it.
Saw him at a wedding in Spain a few years ago. Should have asked for it back. And he still owes me half of the British Gas deposit.

They had a famous FA Cup run in the early 1990s, eventually being knocked out by Crewe 3-1 in the 3rd round. Roly Howard was manager for a record 33 years (1972-2005), although he will always be remembered by some fans as Kenny Dalglish's window cleaner. TV presenter Ray Stubbs once asked: "How's business, Roly?" to which Roly replied "Oh you know - ups and downs."

Former players include Michael Ball (Everton and Rangers) and Stephen Wright (Liverpool and Sunderland). The club motto is 'To Enjoy, Not Destroy.'

I haven't had a lie in for six years, three months and three days. You doing a milk run in the middle of the night? Don't think so!
