SHARING Jack’s joy at completing his Shootout Premier League cards collection got me reminiscing about my own childhood.
Scurrying up to Norman Hood’s newsagents on the top road on a Sunday afternoon with my pocket money clenched in my right hand.
Yes, I’m sure I’ve got a pile of around 100 cards from the 1970s in a box up in the loft.
My mum dropped them round a couple of years ago together with my orange Tonka earthmover, bits of bent Meccano and the remnants of my Subbuteo set.
I had two seasons' worth of cards, as I remember. Never as many as my mate Ash, but he had two brothers. Perhaps 1976 to 1978? Ah yes, I can feel the waxy paper and taste the hard stick of Bazooka bubble gum just thinking about them.
There was Kevin Hector (Derby County), Clive Woods (Ipswich Town), Sammy Nelson (Arsenal), Paul Reaney (Leeds United), Stan Bowles (QPR). I can picture them now.

Oh and Tony Currie (Sheffield Utd) – I found him face down in a puddle on the way home from school. When he’d dried out he was twice as thick as the rest.
Might go for a rummage upstairs later if The Gaffer nods off on the sofa.

They had a famous FA Cup run in the early 1990s, eventually being knocked out by Crewe 3-1 in the 3rd round. Roly Howard was manager for a record 33 years (1972-2005), although he will always be remembered by some fans as Kenny Dalglish's window cleaner. TV presenter Ray Stubbs once asked: "How's business, Roly?" to which Roly replied "Oh you know - ups and downs."

Former players include Michael Ball (Everton and Rangers) and Stephen Wright (Liverpool and Sunderland). The club motto is 'To Enjoy, Not Destroy.'
